Texas Archeological Society · Rockdale, Texas · 2026 · 2:15 Every summer, the Texas Archeological Society trains volunteers, from total beginners to seasoned avocational archeologists, in real excavation, survey, and lab work. We asked a few of them what it's actually like. In this video, you'll hear from the people who made it happen: early-career folks getting their first real fieldwork under their belts, alongside veteran members and the professional archeologists and trained avocationals who lead the program. They talk about what drew them to archeology, what a day on-site actually looks like, and why they keep coming back. The Field School is TAS's flagship program, and it's built to be accessible: no prior experience necessary, activities are offered for participants of all ages, and you can choose your track from survey, excavation, or lab and artifact processing, alongside evening lectures, workshops, and scholarships to help offset costs.
